BA.65 Aircraft – Civil and Desert War Veteran

This Ba.65 is a Fiat-engined example, like the bulk of production aircraft. The first 81 delivered to the Regis Aeronautics employed 522-kW (700-hp.) French Gnome-Rhone K-14 radials. Chile's 20 examples were powered by Piaggio P.XI C.40s.

Initial examples of the Ba.65 were single-seaters, but most were two-seaters with an observer/gunner and machine-gun in the rear cockpit.

An internal fuselage bomb-bay usually carried 300 kg (1,660 lb.) of bombs with an additional 200 kg (440 lb.) was carried on wing racks. A maximum load of 1000 kg (2,200 lb.) was theoretically possible.

A conventional cantilever low-wing monoplane, the Ba.65 had a fuselage and wing structure of chrome-molybdenum steel alloy tubing covered with Duralumin sheet, except for the trailing edges of the wing which were fabric-covered. The wing incorporated trailing-edge laps and Handley Page leading-edge slats. The single fin and rudder were strut- and wire-braced.
